Preparing your kitchen for Christmas

With the whole family coming over for Christmas dinner it is important that you are prepared in advance, with more than just the cooking. Kitchen cleaning needs to be done and maintained through the busy season, but if you can get a head start then you should be covered without too much to worry about.

Here are some cleaning tips from Webton in Leeds, to get your kitchen ready for Christmas.

1. Glasses and dining sets
We often have a cupboard full of special glasses and dine-wear ready for occasions such as Christmas, however this means they have probably gathered some dust. Rinse the glasses and serving dishes off in advance to ensure guests aren’t eating and drinking off dust.

2. Counters
Use a damp sponge or cloth to wipe down kitchen counters regularly. Use an anti-bacterial spray after preparing food to eliminate all germs. For stubborn stains, use baking soda and lemon juice, vinegar or water to remove it.

3. Fridge
Clear out old food from the fridge to make room for the Christmas food and drink. Wipe down shelves and the door with a wet cloth or sponge, but be careful with the glass shelves if you decide to take them out. If you fridge has a lingering smell, leave a cut lemon inside overnight.

4. Oven
The oven is going to see a lot of use over Christmas. Check in your manufacturers guide on how to clean it, but otherwise use baking soda and water to clean the stains without worrying about the harsh chemicals in other oven cleaners.

5. The bin
Remember to empty your bins regularly, to get rid of rubbish and bad smells. If your bin needs a clean, use warm soapy water on the inside and outside. If your bin still continues to smell, leave half a cut lemon inside overnight.

6. Floor
Depending on the floor you have, vacuum and mop before guests arrive, but be sure to dust first to make sure you can clean up as much mess as possible first time. Also look out for doorways and hallways, as they tend to gather the mot dirt as guests arrive.
